Case Study

TradeUp Project

About the project

TradeUp was a web-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software that was developed for a client targeting SMEs in Pakistan who were accustomed to manual methods of data handling. TradeUp could be used to manage the business dealings of small to medium scale firms, companies and businesses in an efficient and hassle-free way. The need for this software was made clear when contemporary business management strategies for local businesses were studied. Small scale businesses used Microsoft Excel, Sheets or manual methods to manage stock, inventories, ledgers, sales, invoices, suppliers and purchases. The reason for using outdated methods is because the licensing costs for software available in the market was expensive which makes them unaffordable by small businesses. TradeUp offers a web presence and has modules for sales, stocks, inventories, warehouses, invoices to name a few in a very economic package to help small scale businesses thrive. The application is made using ‘Service Oriented Architecture’ which makes it easy to integrate mobile applications and other systems with it, since they will be using the same backend infrastructure. To make it easy to allow customers to demo the product and to be able to launch separate instances per company, a bootstrap script was written in Bash which launched an instance, pulled all the dependencies and builds, configured the server from scratch and used LetsEncrypt to generate an HTTPs certificate.
